Ironstone Memories: Cleveland Fibre Arts Textile Exhibition

20th July 2026 - 31st October 2026

Ironstone Memories

Ironstone Memories brings together textile art, local heritage and the story of the ironstone mining landscape.

Created by Cleveland Fibre Arts, this mixed media exhibition uses wool, stitchwork, felting, weaving, knitting and other textile techniques to explore the colours, textures and memories of East Cleveland and North Yorkshire’s ironstone past.

Heritage in fabric, thread and stitch

For 185 years, ironstone mining shaped the people, places and landscape of this region, from the mid-1800s until the last mine closed in 1964.

In this exhibition, that history is reimagined through fabric, thread, wool and stitch.

About Cleveland Fibre Arts

Cleveland Fibre Arts was established in the early 1990s. Its members, based around the North York Moors and East Cleveland, meet regularly to share knowledge, develop traditional rural crafts and create work inspired by the moors, coast, Cleveland Hills and local heritage.

Visiting the exhibition

Ironstone Memories is on display at Land of Iron from 20 July to 31 October 2026 and is included with admission.

Your Land of Iron admission ticket also includes a guided mine tour and gives you 12 months of return visits, so you can come back again during the year.

The workshops take place on:

Friday 7 August 2026, 10am to 1pm
Friday 21 August 2026, 10am to 1pm

Tickets are £5 per person, plus a 50p online booking fee. Everyone attending requires a ticket, including accompanying adults, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
