Summer Rock Pooling in Skinningrove with Land of Iron
31st July 2026 - 17th August 2026
Join us at Land of Iron for a summer rock pooling adventure on the Skinningrove coastline.
Head out with our experienced staff and volunteers to discover what lives in the rock pools along the shore. Expect to find crabs, fish and more, and learn why these creatures are so important to our coastal habitats.
This activity takes place on selected dates between 31 July and 17 August 2026.
Because rock pooling depends on the tide, the start times are not the same for every session. Each event has been timed so that the session ends at low tide, giving us the best chance to explore the rock pools safely.
Please check the date and time carefully when booking your ticket.

Parking
We recommend using the main public car park on the other side of the beck, The Way of St Hild Car Park.
Parking is free, but spaces are limited. Please note, there is now a 4-hour maximum stay, and you must still obtain and display a ticket from the machine using your vehicle registration.
Please park considerately and avoid parking in front of residences in Skinningrove.
The Land of Iron car park is also marked on the map and available for use while on our Rock Pooling activity. Please be aware that this is around a 10-minute walk from the beach.
What to bring
Nets and buckets are provided by Land of Iron, but please bring your own wellies or suitable footwear, and be ready to get a little bit wet.
Children and supervision
Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
Land of Iron’s programme of events and activities is made possible thanks to The National Lottery Heritage Fund and National Lottery players.
