Land of Iron Receives Significant Award from Museum Estate & Development Fund

We’ve got some incredible news!

Land of Iron has been successful in its bid for funding from the Museum & Estate Development Fund.

We have been awarded over £650,000 to protect and stabilise mining tunnels and buildings on our site. These nationally significant historic structures will now be saved for future generations.

Opening up more sections of the historic Loftus Mine site means we can continue to tell the story of the ironstone industry and community across Redcar & Cleveland, Tees Valley, and the North York Moors National Park and will allow safe public access into these mining areas for the first time and make the experience for our visitors even more exciting.

Marie Woods, Land of Iron’s CEO said:

“We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded this grant by Arts Council England. We will now be able to safeguard this nationally significant site for the future and continue to share information about the industry and its communities.”

Thank you to Arts Council England and the Department for Culture, Media & Sport for awarding us this funding. We can’t wait to get started!
