Land of Iron has been awarded a grant of £244,318 from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, thanks to National Lottery players. This significant funding boost will allow the museum to create new jobs, enhance its community outreach, and expand its lifelong learning initiatives for people in the area.

Since reopening in January 2023 following extensive redevelopment, Land of Iron has delivered over 100 engaging events and activities—most at zero or low cost—on top of its year-round exhibitions and guided tours. From heritage-themed talks and family-friendly STEM sessions to film screenings, community dance workshops, and heritage walks, the museum has become a vibrant hub for local culture and education. Its ‘Mine on the Move’ initiative has brought local history directly into the community, making heritage accessible to all.

The museum’s success is deeply rooted in collaboration, working alongside local organisations and community groups to deliver meaningful programmes that resonate with residents. This new grant ensures that Land of Iron can continue to build these partnerships and further establish itself as a cornerstone of the Redcar & Cleveland community.
